Victor & Hall Are Liabilities

OK, I don't mind losing 8-0, but I don't like it when we look foolish losing 8-0. At least the Sox went 3-3 for a .500 record on their first road.

Victor Martinez is proving that he is not the answer at catcher. Thus far, he has shown a very poor & very inaccurate throwing arm. Victor has also allowed runners to score from 3rd with poor decision-making by making ill-advised throws to 2nd. His bat will make-up for some of these inadequacies. But, long-term, the Sox must eye Martinez first as a DH or 1B & second as a part-time, fill-in catcher. I see this season playing out with Varitek getting more time behind the plate. The Sox still need to develop a young catcher that can throw & at least hit .250.

Billy Hall is a utility guy that has not impressed me wherever he plays. At SS he ran into Ellsbury on a pop-up that was clearly the outfielder's ball. Reminded me of Johnny Damon getting knocked unconscious at Yankee Stadium. He made an error in CF today & has not really shown anything at the plate. I'll take Jed Lowry for utility infielder & leave Hermida as the 4th outfielder.

Both Victor & Hall need to step it up if they are to be part of Theo's run prevention scheme in 2010. Not much run prevention today.
