Lowell's Role

How ironic is it that Mike Lowell is part of the Sox's 25-man roster as they head north? I call them fortuitous injuries, but Mike's hand surgery & recent foul ball off his leg have kept him in a Red Sox uniform by depressing the interest of other teams in acquiring him. Good for us!

Lowell can hit. It will be an adjustment for him to play part-time, but what a great bat to have available off the bench. Should Beltre, Youk or Big Papi need a day off, there's your guy. Let's not mention injury to one of these 3, but it could happen.

It would be quite the great storyline for Lowell to play a major role in a successful Sox season this year. Stranger things have happened. And if it does, it couldn't happen to a nicer guy who remains a fan favorite.

A month ago I was desperately worried about the Sox' offense for this upcoming year. But after catching a couple of pre-season games I'm feeling much better. The days of the long ball flying out of Fenway are gone but the first to third and the second to home "small ball" may prove enough with our deep and really good pitching. I doubt we out slug the Yanks but with a 6 starters and plenty of bench and multi position starters I'm really looking forward to this "New Look" Sox team. Have a great season Red Sox Nation and I'll catch you all on MLB extra innings.
PS. Please no Fenway chants of Yankees suck on Sunday.... They're the defending champs and it makes us look so bush league.
