Theo Epstein just couldn't pull off a big deal to help the club down the stretch. The asking price for top prospects was just too high. They did make a couple of moves for the future.
Jarrod Saltalamacchia finally makes it to Boston from Texas. "Saltie" was rumored to be coming to Beantown last year. The Sox now have a 25-year old switch-hitter as a backup to Victor & perhaps a solid pinch-hitter off the bench.
Ramon Ramirez gets dealt to the Giants for a pitching prospect. No one would object to that trade.
And Jeremy Hermida got released with Ryan Kalish taking his spot. Hermida had several big RBI's in the first half prior to his collision with Beltre. Since coming back he has been shakey in the field & not producing with the bat. His release was the right move too.
What I didn't like, & thought was in very poor taste, was the NESN coverage of Hermida leaving Fenway in his vehicle - over & over again. Let it rest. The guy just got released, a nice word for cut. It's like showing an accident over & over again. Poor programming, NESN. It was very poor sports programming - just because there were not a lot of moves by the home team to talk about. Let the guy rest in peace.
