Jed Lowrie has been injured for the better part of his career with the Red Sox. Just when you think he gets into a groove, an injury or illness pops up. This year it was mono. More recently, it was dehydration in the Texas heat.
Lowrie was inserted at 1B for Mike Lowell last night, playing only his 3rd game at that position. With 2 down in the 11th he dropped an easy pop foul ball for the 3rd out. Pap went onto get the 3rd out.
Jed made up for his error in the bottom of the 11th with a solo shot into the Sox bullpen in right-center. Game over. Sox win 5-4 & gain a full game on Tampa who lost out west to the A's by the same score.
The Sox have 4 games left on this homestand, an off-day on Thursday & then a huge 3-game series in Tampa next weekend. These next 7 games will tell a lot about the outcome of the pennant race going into September.
