No Arrow for Crooked-Hat Rodney
Take that - Rodney & Seattle Mariners! Sox win 2-1 on a well-played game in the Pacific Northwest late last night. Rodney gave up the winning run, faced 7 batters in the 9th & needed 30+ pitches in a very poor effort. Great defense by Dustin Pedroia & Shane Victorino. Timely hitting by Victorino & Mookie Betts. Big bunt by Blake Swihart to move Bogaerts into scoring position in the 9th. Swihart did so with 2 strikes. Nice start by Joe Kelly who seemed more in control of himself last night. Excellent relief by Matt Barnes & Koji to close the door. Hanley had a 4-hit night, but he needs to stop going to 2nd as he got thrown out twice. Bad news. Mike Napoli is lost at the plate, taking fastball after fastball for strikes early in the count. He took an 0-4. Ortiz only hit 1 ball out of the infield for a loud out & he also went 0-4, dropping his BA to around .220. But a win is a win. Sox are now 4-1 in their last 5 games. Yankees keep losing, so Sox are only 3.5 games behind.
