Sox Still Talking to Phillies About Hamels

Evidently, dialogue continues about Cole Hamels & the Red Sox.  At a 6.22 ERA, highest in the majors, the Red Sox experiment of no clear cut #1 ace is a bust in the early goings of 2015.  Blake Swihart, Mookie Betts, Henry Owens - would you give up any of these guys for a pitcher like Hamels under contract until 36 years old?  Depends.  How far away are Stephen Wright, Brian Johnson, Matt Barnes & Henry Owens from the big club?  Can we weather the storm for 3 months until one of these guys is ready?  That's why Ben gets the big bucks.  Not an easy decision.  I keep Swihart because the catching position is not easy to fill, especially for a switch-hitter with power like Swihart.  Most catchers bat 9th in the order.  Mookie & Rusney have similar skill sets, so I could move one of them.  Owens is a pitcher who pitches to contact, so I could move him if necessary.  With only so many swings left in Big Papi's bat I would look to make the 2015 team as competitive as possible.  If the team can stay in contention until July, then we could get a rental like Cueto, Zimmermann or Price for lesser prospects.  No easy decision.  And the starters aren't making it any easier for Ben in the early going.  I say stay the course for now & re-evaluate in May.

I guess I am not as high on Owens as everyone else. I would grab Hamels now.
