Reversal As Pitching, Defense Help Sox Win 1-0
We haven't been talking much about pitching & defense lately, but both of those elements led to a 1-0 win last night in Tampa Bay against the Rays & Chris Archer. Wade Miley went 5 2/3 scoreless, followed by 3 1/3 scoreless by the bullpen. The lone run of the game was scored by Ryan Hanigan in the 3rd inning. Hanigan came home on a sure inning-ending double-play ball hit by Pedroia that was thwarted when Mookie Betts went into 2nd hard & he produced an errant throw by the Rays from 2nd to 1st as Pedroia went down the line hard. Brock Holt continues to impress at every position, last night being SS. His play in the hole was a beauty. Another small point - Daniel Nava playing 1B & scooping Pablo's low throw out of the dirt for the final out of the game. You have to love the Sox bench of Nava, Holt, Craig & Leon. They are giving starters a rest & contributing to wins when they play. Sox are pretty good in 1-run games so far this year. And it's always nice to beat Archer who whines about other players antics, but not his own jumping around on the mound.
