Red Sox 8, Yankees 4
The Yankees looked like a Little League team in the field. The Bronx non-bombers had more errors than hits for most of this game & the game was not as close as the score indicates. The Red Sox rested Ramirez, Betts & Victorino. The replacement outfield of Nava, Holt & Craig did a lot of damage at the plate & in the field. Meanwhile, the Yankees replacements of Young, Jones, Petit & Murphy scuffled on both offense & defense. Even Brett Gardner may a big error early in the game on a Daniel Nava fly, only to be outdone by a 3-run error in RF by Garreth Jones in the 8th. A-Rod looked like cement hands at 1B. But enough about them. Joe Kelly had a great 1st start, limiting the Yankees to 1 run on 1 hit through the 1st 7 innings. Let's say that the experiment of not having a #1 starter is working so far. This game was about the depth of the Red Sox roster & how good several of the bench players are. And by the way, Rusney is still hitting the ball well in AAA. Deep, deep, deep. This roster will serve the Red Sox well over the course of a long season. A 4-1 start on the road is nothing to scoff at.
