John Thomase - Stop With Pap"s Return
WEEI's John Thomase wrote an article saying the Sox should bring back Jonathan Papelbon to be the team's closer. John, stop the insanity! We don't want to go back to the future. Pap is 34 years old & he has 2 years & $26 million left on his contract. Way too much money, even if the Phillies pick up half. Let's give Koji a chance to get his feet under him in decent weather. April has been like spring training for Uehara, coming back from a hamstring injury in March. If troubles persist with the Sox closer, I would go young. Find a hard throwing guy like Matt Barnes or Brian Johnson & see if they can take the reins. There is also Mujica who has closing experience. Koji was the Sox 4th choice in 2013 before he nailed down the closer's job with unbelievable results. I would rule out all internal options before looking outside the organization. And Pap would then be a very last resort.
