Vazquez Out, Leon Acquired from Nats
Poor Cristian Vazquez! On the verge of being the Sox #1 catcher for the 1st time in his young career, he gets an elbow injury requiring him to move to the 60-day DL. Ryan Hanigan will now assume the #1 catching duties with veteran Humberto Quintero & rookie Blake Swihart ready to move into the #2 backup role. Not to go unnoticed, however, was the acquisition of C Sandy Leon from the Nationals as added depth at catcher. Quintero & Leon are good defensive catchers with not much offense, whereas Swihart has a good bat to go along with his improving defensive skills. It will be interesting to see how the Sox juggle the #2 catching spot while Vazquez is out. Let's hope Vazquez can return in June or sooner. Tough break for this good kid.
