Early Observations
I have to remember my own rhetoric - that spring training results mean nothing. With that in mind here are my observations from the Sox 9-8 loss to the Twins. Dustin Pedroia has good bat speed already, as evidenced by his 3 hits & grand slam, proving that his hand is fully healed. As Bill Ripkin said on MLB, a productive & healthy Pedroia makes the Sox a better team. Joe Kelly needs to work on control. JBJ is more confident at the plate as he nearly missed an HR. Bogaerts' nice & easy swing can produce a ground out or a 400 foot plus homer. Sean Coyle is a guy that Red Sox fans should watch as he is Pedroia Jr. Dan Johnson has a big presence on the mound. Matt Barnes throws hard. Those are my takeaways from the Sox first big league action in the Grapefruit League.
