Sox Sign Miley to 3-Year Deal
Wade Miley, entering his age 28 season, is now a Boston Red Sox for the next 3 years with an option for 2018. The deal is a reasonable $19.25 million, or about $6.5 mil per year. Not bad for a guy who threw 597 innings over the past 3 years & who had a mid-3.00 ERA for 2 of his 3 big league seasons. Miley is an innings-eater. Plug him in for 200 per year & look for a win-loss around or above .500. He did have a 16-win season in 2012. I like the fact that Ben locked Miley up over what should be his best years as a pitcher. Other than Buchholz & Masterson, the Sox rotation with Porcello, Miley & Kelly are all 20-somethings. If we can get 2 more of the younger pitching prospects in the minors to join this staff in the near future, we will be set for several years & avoid signing a $30 million a year pitcher. Good signing, Ben!
