Shields Finally Signs

James Shields was without a home going into February. He was "adopted" yesterday by the San Diego Padres who purchased his services for 4 years at $75 million. To me Shields was not a fit for the Red Sox who have a bumper crop of young & talented pitchers ready to break into the big leagues. I like the fact that the Red Sox are staying young with Porcello, Miley & Kelly. Masterson is a 1 year fix to allow the younger pitcher another year to mature. Buchholz may be on his way out after this season unless he turns things around. There are also many many free agent pitchers hitting the market in 2016. I don't think Shields was ever in the plans. Good for the Padres & their new ownership for shaking things up in the NL West. This team was a good landing spot for Shields.
