Farrell: Kelly's Success Drives the Rotation
I thought this headline put a lot of pressure on Kelly. There's an article on the Red Sox website that says Farrell lists Joe Kelly's success as one that will make the entire Sox rotation have success or not. If you listen to the interview, that's not what Farrell said. Kelly did make a prediction early this year that he will win the Cy Young Award. OK, self-confidence is good. Me - I'm a little more humble. Even if that was my personal goal, I would keep it personal. But it's a selfie-crazed, open society these days, so bragging is accepted as the norm. In the interview Farrell actually said that Kelly needs to continue to improve & throw as many innings as possible. More innings will equate to more success. He did not say that Kelly's performance will make or break the rest of the rotation. In fact, if any one of the 5 starters gets injured or they are ineffective, the Sox have several aspiring arms from Pawtucket that can fill-in nicely. I like Joe Kelly & I hope he has a breakout year. As my friend once said, it ain't bragging if you do it. So go get that Cy Young, Joe!
