Why Sign Hanley?
It's confusing to say the least. Reports are out there that the Red Sox have signed Hanley Ramirez to a 5 year, $90 million deal. Ramirez will be in Boston on Monday. Hanley was a young star with the Red Sox back in 2000 & it was obvious that the teenager had issues with maturity. His time with the Marlins & Dodgers have done nothing to make you think that he has matured over the years. And if the Red Sox sign him, where does he play? It's not SS as he has one of the worst fielding records. It's not 3B if the Sox sign Sandoval. And it's not LF if the Sox keep Cespedes. Add the injury bug to the young 30-something's resume & what are you really getting? Another right-handed bat that can be very productive. Offense sells which is the case here. So this move by the Red Sox has everyone scratching their heads. Maybe Sandoval's deal is falling through. Maybe Cespedes gets moved in a trade for a pitcher. Hanley is the back-up plan that perhaps has become Ben's plan A.
