Russell Martin - Not A Fit
WEEI had a piece yesterday on Russell Martin, saying that the Sox make kick the tires on the 31 year old catcher free agent who hit .290 last year with 11 homers. I say no. If the Sox keep Cespedes & Castillo, if Pedroia is healthy, if Ortiz can be Ortiz for 1 more year, then we don't need a better hitting catcher that will take $10 million plus to sign. Use the money on pitching. As we are seeing this month, pitching wins playoffs. Keep Ross for 1 more year as a backup to Vazquez, then Swihart should be ready to jump in. I'd rather see the Sox kick the tires on Sandoval or Headley at 3B. We have plenty of outfielders & infielders. Let's take care of starting pitching & the bullpen before anything else. Plus Martin is an ex-Yankee.
