Ross Goes Free Agency, Breslow Contract Bought Out

For a guy who was all over the Red Sox championship DVD in 2013 & for a guy singing the praises of Boston, I was surprised that David Ross filed for free agency. Maybe the Sox told him what they were willing to offer for a 60-game back-up catcher now that Vazquez is moving to everyday status. But I was surprised. In a non-surprise move the Red Sox declined a $4 million option on Craig Breslow, instead buying him out for $100,000. Breslow had an off year & he may very well rebound for another team in 2015 - just not at a $4 mil price tag. Lefties are always in demand, so I'm sure he will find a job. I expect the Sox to keep up a busy pace as free agent signings can start on Tuesday.
