Is Baltimore Doomed Like Detroit Last Year?
In 2013 the unlikely Boston Red Sox came from nowhere to win the World Series after their city experienced a terrorist bombing earlier in the year. Some say it was fate. Some say players were playing for more than themselves. Perhaps the Kansas City Royals are the new team of destiny in 2014. They beat the Orioles 8-6 last night in Baltimore in extra innings. On paper the Orioles are the better, more consistent, more complete team. But you don't win games on paper (as the Yankees know). Baltimore may fall prey to a team of few players who's names most people don't know. It reminds me of the Detroit Tigers last year in the ALCS. No way the Red Sox should have eliminated that Motown team, but they did. It's not always about stats. And the Royals are reminding us of that.
