Yankees Become Faceless
The New York Yankees were eliminated from the playoffs last night. This is 2 years in a row that the team with the biggest payroll in baseball does not make the post-season. Derek Jeter plays his last game at Yankee Stadium tonight, followed by 3 final games at Fenway. Once Jeter retires the identity or face of the Yankees is gone. I always considered Jeter, Mariano & Posada the "real" Yankees, guys that were not bought & paid for to come to New York. Who is the face of the Yankees in 2015? Not Ellsbury. Not McCann. Not Teixeira. Not Tanaka. The Yankees will lack that superstar power to draw fans into their big & expensive ballpark for some time. And they will have to deal with the A-Rod situation once again. Things in Gotham are bleak.
