Rusney Era Begins
Rusney Castillo singled in his first minor league at-bat in Florida yesterday. The Cuban defector played DH & got a couple of at-bats & was thrown out trying to steal 2nd. Not a bad start to get the rust off of a year's + absence from competition. As Lou Merloni said on The Baseball Show, the Sox will bring him to the big team later in September to introduce him to the "routine" - what time to get to the park, pre-game workout, post-game transportation, hotel living, etc. - so it won't be strange to him next year. There are a lot of cultural differences to get through & the Sox want their $72 million investment to be comfortable next year in the Sox starting lineup. He could be in CF. He could be at 3B. I bet Middlebrooks, Betts & JBJ would like to know where Rusney is playing too as it effects their future with this team. Rusney will be "the" story of September for the Red Sox.
