Kelly Has Done Enough

Pencil in Joe Kelly as one of the Red Sox starters in 2015. In my book Kelly has done enough to earn a spot in 2015. Even though the Sox lost 4-0 to the surging O's last night Kelly once again gave a creditable performance by going 6+ innings & giving up just 3 earned runs, scattering 6 singles against the team with the most homers in the bigs. That's a pitcher who gives your team a chance to win. Maybe the Sox should pull an Indianapolis Colts & just tank the rest of the season to get a better draft pick. There's nothing left to play for this year. Back to Kelly who is only 24 years old. He is under contract for 4 more years & Joe is a guy that can & will improve as time goes on. Along with Kelly, I guess the inconsistent Clay Buchholz has done enough lately to keep his spot for next year, although you can't count on him for a full season of 200 innings. That's where Brandon Workman or Anthony Ranaudo come in as valuable insurance. Then there is Rubby De La Rosa who could function adequately as a #5 starter. So I'd say that Ben has the job of finding a #1 & a #2 in the off season.
