Bradford: Is Yasmani Tomas the Next Cuban Slugger for Sox?

Rob Bradford has a nice piece on WEEI about Yasmani Tomas. Another Cuban power hitter. 6'1", 230 pounds, 23 years old. Tomas will be in a baseball showcase this weekend in the Dominican. Lots & lots of teams will be there. He has the physical build of a Jose Abreu. Bradford goes on to say that the Sox could actually let him perculate in AAA for a half season to get his feet wet while the Sox brass juggle their crowded outfield situation. In my mind there is always room for a power hitter. Don't forget that the ageless David Ortiz will retire some year & someone else has to fill those shoes. Again, it's just money & the Cubans are a steal on multi-year deals at $7-$8 million a year versus the $20+ million a year to extend a guy like Stanton. Think about this. Cespedes, Castillo, Victorino start the year in the Sox outfield. Victorino likely gets hurt & up comes Tomas from Pawtucket after experiencing some triple A competition. We could have a whole Cuban outfield for years with one of them rotating at DH. Then, all of the prospects being showcased by the Sox can be used to get proven major-league pitching - a Chris Sale, a Johnny Cueto, a Cole Hammels. C'mon, John Henry, open that checkbook again.
