Webster's Bad Outing
Allen Webster wasn't able to follow-up a decent outing with another decent outing yesterday. Control was nowhere to be found. 6 walks in 2+ innings dug the Red Sox a hole that they couldn't climb out of. Sox lose to Yankees 6-4. If Webster gets another shot, he needs to find a way to relax & compete at the major league level. His resume thus far is one of a good AAA pitcher & one of an inconsistent, wild major league pitcher. Everyone says he has good stuff & you can see that. Like most young pitchers, however, you need to control your stuff in order to stay in the big leagues. Webster is too young for the Sox to give up on (or maybe he is expendable in a trade package). Let's see what Joe Kelly has in his arsenal on Wednesday against his former teammates in St. Louis as the rotation continues to change. And today, let's see what the old man of the rotation, Clay Buchholz, can do against the Yankees. Does anyone see Buck as a leader of this young rotation? I don't.
