Nice Start to Weekend

The unofficial start to the 2nd half is a win for the Sox, 5-4 over the Royals, thanks to a 2-run blast by pinch hitter Jonny Gomes. Xander Bogaerts, yes Xander Bogaerts, hit a 2-run shot earlier in the 6th inning. KC manager Ned Yost said it was a mistake to lift starter James Shields with 2 outs in the 6th. Scott Downs came in to face pinch-hitter Gomes for JBJ & Gomes made him pay. Clay Buchholz was not sharp in his outing, giving up 10 hits in 6 innings. But it was good enough for a win & wins are what this team needs badly now. A good start.
