Lackey to Cards for Craig & Kelly

Jon Lackey's team friendly contract was swallowed up by the St. Louis Cardinals. In my humble opinion the Red Sox got great value in return with Allen Craig, a professional hitter, & Joe Kelly, a young pitcher. Craig & Cespedes will add much needed pop to a dead Red Sox offense. Kelly will get a chance to pitch in the AL East & get evaluated towards a rotation spot in 2015. Lots of moving pieces today. Anthony Renaudo will likely replace Lackey on Friday against the Yankees. Offense was definitely upgraded. I think that my memory of John Lackey's time in Boston will be his transformation in 2013 to an elite starter that ran all the way through the playoffs & culminated in his World Series game 6 win for the title.

This deal has potential. The sox did well here. They dumped a big salary for 2 good players.
