Going, Going, 2014 Gone
3 losses in a row. No chance of overtaking 6 teams to move into wild card contention. Good night, 2014 season! An 8-0 defeat today at the hands of the Jays with the offense getting just one hit, a single. No indication that this team can play above .500 for any extended period of time. Too many vets having off-seasons. No magic in 1-run games this time around. So now Ben has a clear chance to begin improving this team for 2015. Other than Ortiz & Pedroia, isn't every other player available for the right deal? Cherington's phone should be blowing up after this game. Pieces like Gomes, Peavy, Drew & others may be of interest to playoff-contending teams. Other bad teams like the Cubs, Diamondbacks & Astros may be willing to part with a Goldschmidt, a Castro or a Carter for the right players in return. We have a surplus of pitching which is a need for every team. Uehara, Lackey & Lester would be big chips to trade away if the Sox want to go young, jettison payroll & be active in the bidding war for Nelson Cruz & others hitters in the off-season. I still hope that Jon Lester is afforded the opportunity to finish his career in Boston as a Red Sox.
