Make It 7 In A Row
A home town scorer helped Brock Holt get credit for 4 doubles yesterday as the Red Sox finished off a sweep of the Rays 4-0. Jon Lester was too much for the Tampa Bay offense as he threw 7 innings of shutout ball. New guys Alex Hassan & Garin Cecchini both got their first major league hits. Back to Holt. Manager John Farrell got creative & played Holt at 1B to keep his bat in the lineup. And it paid off. We may see Holt at 1B this entire week since Mike Carp went on the DL with a broken foot & Mike Napoli is not ready to come off the DL until next week. Holt was thought to be odd man out as Stephen Drew returns to play SS tonight. Now it is Jonathan Herrera who may be sent down to make room for Drew. The Red Sox open a 3 game set in Cleveland against Terry Francona's Indians. Old friend Justin Masterson gets the ball against John Lackey. As unlikely as this sounds, I was surprised to learn that the Red Sox record in May was 13-15. I thought it would have been much worse due to the 10 game losing streak. On June 2nd the Sox are 6 back of Toronto for first & 1 1/2 behind Baltimore for 3rd. It would be nice to move up one spot by this time next week.
