Shakeup the Lineup
Our local newspaper & its sports writer has a fix for John Farrell's lackluster offense. Bat Xander Bogaerts leadoff since he has the best OBP on the team & return Dustin Pedroia to his customary #2 spot. Drop Shane Victorino into the 2nd 3rd of the order to help the 5 through 9 spots be more productive. In the meantime, look for a power-hitting third-baseman, like Encarnacion who will be playing for the visitors tonight. OK, I'm game! It can't hurt anything. The Detroit pitching staff can make a lot of offenses look bad, but the Red Sox offense was stop & go before this past series. While they are #3 in OBP the Sox are #10 or #12 in scoring with RISP. After a good start in April Mike Napoli's bat took the month of May off, so getting Nap hot again would help. Grady Sizemore & Jonny Gomes have not produced in the #5 spot. A.J. Pierzynski had a mini hot streak, starting with his grand slam in Toronto, but he has been grounding out to the infield with regularity lately. And Middlebrooks & Bradley at the bottom have been terrible at the plate. Sometimes change can be good. It will be interesting to see what lineup goes out there tonight. P.S. Mookie Betts played CF last night for the Portland Sea Dogs & his .383 batting average may rush him into the big leagues sooner than later on a team that needs more offense.
