Is This Detroit's Year?
Scherzer is a free agent to be. Cabrera, Martinez, Hunter & Verlander are getting older. Maybe this is the now-or-never year that the Tigers need to win a World Series. And they just might. The Motown Men have one of the best records in baseball. Pitching & offense are tops or near tops of the league. The Tigers' win last night 6-1 over the struggling Red Sox shows just what a good team they are. Well balanced & consistent, something the Red Sox had last year. The Red Sox magic candle extinguished at the end of the 2013 season. There has been no magic in Boston this year. No consistency in part to 3 younger players breaking into the lineup & going through growing pains. No big hits or timely hits like last year from guys hitting .200+. 10 games have been lost by 1 run. If anything, the Red Sox pitching has been the most stable part of their season. But even John Lackey is human as we found out last night. If I'm a Red Sox pitcher these days, I'm thinking 1 or 2 runs given up & the game might be over with the non-offense of late. This year the Tigers are getting it done -- for example, like finding a way to barely beat Jon Lester 1-0 in the opener. Good luck, Jake Peavy, tonight! The Tigers are a handful.
