Boston Sports Massacre on Thursday
Wow! Not the type of sports day in Boston that anyone would have predicted. The hated Montreal Canadiens stole game 1 at TD Garden with a 4-3 double overtime win. The division rival Tampa Bay Rays stole 2 1-run games at Fenway from the Red Sox. 3 losses in 1 day make us all feel like losers today. Not only did the Red Sox give away game 1 by walking home the winning run in a 2-1 loss, the nightcap slipped away by poor performances from the Japanese duo of Tazawa & Uehara in a 6-5 loss. You know things are going bad when David De Jesus hits a ball down right field line & it trickles off the padding into the stands for a home run. An inch lower & it's a double. Jake Peavy deserved a better fate in game 1, but the Sox offense was lifeless for the 1st time since the return of Victorino & Middlebrooks. Game 2 was lost in the late innings when Tazawa gave up the tying run on a pair of hits in the 8th & Uehara gave up a game-winning homer in the 9th. Yikes! It's not 2014 Toto & it seems like nothing is a sure thing this year, at least so far. And the Sox lost a 4th time in the public perception arena by forcing the Rays to make up yesterday's wash out as part of a doubleheader when it could have been re-scheduled later in the year. Not many ticket holders for Wednesday night's game were there on Thursday afternoon. But don't worry - you can show your ticket on any non-game day to get your Pedroia bobble-head doll. Good marketing, Larry! So we lose-lose-lose-lose. Back in a last place tie with the Rays. May is starting off worse than April.
