Saltie to Marlins

Jarrod Saltalamacchia gets his longer term deal with the Miami Marlins. Saltie is expected to sign a 3-year, $21 million contract this week. Saltie certainly had some good moments in a Red Sox uniform. I saw him years ago in a spring training game with Texas hit a homer lefty, then a homer righty. He has all the tools, but his game just plateaued at an average level. Personally, I thought that he would find a team that could use him at catcher, 1B & DH. But Saltie is from Florida & he gets a chance to go home for the next 3 years. No doubt Saltie will never forget 2013 & the "617" jersey that he & Jonny Gomes thought of after the Boston Marathon bombings. He also showed great compassion at the parade stop to the owners of local businesses that took in the wounded from the bombing. Sometimes it's not all about on the field. Saltie joins Carlos Ruiz, Brian McCann, AJ Pierzynski & Dioner Navarro as fee agent catchers signing new deals this year. Only Ruiz stayed with his current team. Good luck, Saltie!
