Mijica Joins Sox Pen
29 year old Edward Mujica, a former Cardinals late-inning arm & closer, gets 2 years & $9.5 million to move to the Boston bullpen. MLB reporters are poo-pooing this deal as too expensive. What deal isn't these days! I see this move by Ben as a way of leveraging Brandon Workman into a starter's spot, if needed. Workman pitched well in the playoffs out of the pen, but he also had success during the year as a starter. One new young arm to join Felix Doubront as a 20-something year old is always a good thing. I think Workman paid his dues in 2013 by pitching in any spot for the Sox. Maybe he gets a chance to start if Ben is thinking of more moves on the chess board that include moving a starter or two.
