Ellsbury Now Part of Evil Empire
It's a good gig - 7 years, $153 million with an option for an 8th year. A la Judas Johnny Damon, Jacoby Ellsbury turns to pinstripes for his future playing career. My granddaughter texted me last night & she couldn't believe it. I did have the pleasure of meeting Ells & his wife once & they don't seem like the bright lights of New York kind of people. But for $153 million you can put up with being booed loudly every time you step on the field at Fenway. Damon did. The Yankees just can't seem to help themselves with these incredibly long contracts. You would think that they had learned their lesson after A-Rod, Teixeira & Sabathia. The only long-term guy to workout for the Yankees is Jeter & he should be retired by now. Let's not forget the injury bug that has plagued Ells in the past. The Yankees are gambling that he stays healthy for a long, long time. The signing of Ellsbury may also signal a goodbye to Robinson Cano who is also looking for big money on the free agency market. Curtis Granderson is probably gone now as well. For Ellsbury he gets financial security for his family for the future. But he will earn every dollar when he comes to Fenway. Judas Jacoby joins the Judas Johnny club. Let the cat calls start!
