Brock Holt As Utility Guy

Ben Cherington says that the Sox may need to get rid of a starting pitcher if they are to sign Stephen Drew. Alternatively, the name Brock Holt popped up on the Red Sox website as a low-cost guy who could become the utility infielder that the Sox need. In limited games last year Holt did a very serviceable job, along with Brandon Synder. Holt is only 25 & he comes highly recommended for his versatility at 3B, SS & 2B along with his bat. I don't like the idea of getting rid of any starters. Lester, Lackey, Buccholz, Peavy, Dempster & Doubront will all have plenty of innings between them. Buck is always hurt. Peavy is coming off several injuries. Dempster & Doubront always tire late in the year. In essence, we have 2 mainstays in Lester & Lackey. I'd give Middlebrooks & Bogaerts a chance to grow into their positions in 2014 & go with Holt as utility. No need to give up a starter to re-sign Drew for another bridge year.
