The Day After
It's starting to settle in. It really happened. A group of players that were suppose to play out a bridge year did what all the experts thought was impossible. David Ortiz started the year on the DL. Clay Buccholz missed 3 months of the season. 2 closers had season ending surgery. John Lackey was expected to be traded as he represented the old beer & chicken regime. John Farrell was a losing manager in Toronto. Jon Lester was not pitching well into the all star break. The Rays, O's & Yankees were contending for playoff berths down the stretch. But this team overcame every obstacle, finished strong in September & continued to find a way to win during the playoffs. A total of 49 different players were used this year. Boston Strong started after the bombings in April. As the Globe headline read, Boston strongest is October. The truth can be stranger than fiction sometimes. Fear the Beards in 2013 will go down as a historic turnaround from last to World Series champs. We will be talking about this year for a long, long time to come.
