Peralta, Haren Find New Homes
Obviously the St. Louis Cardinals don't care about PED users since they signed Jhonny Peralta to a 4-year, $53 million deal. Peralta missed 50 games this past season for being caught up in the Biogenesis scandal. Peralta, 31, is a lifetime .268 hitter who averages 18 HR's & 82 RBI. Does that warrant $13.5 million per year? Obviously the Cards think so. And 33 year old Dan Haren signs a 1-year deal with the LA Dodgers for $10 million. Haren was often injured, but he did go 10-14 for the Nationals last year over 169 innings with an ERA of 4.67 & a WHIP of 1.238. In his big league career Haren has pitched more than 200 innings in 7 years, so there are not many bullets left in that right arm. I had to chuckle when one announcer said he took a "cut in pay" to return to the west coast. If this is the kind of crazy money being thrown out there, I wouldn't mind if the Sox did nothing & just filled any holes from exiting players with internal fixes - like JBJ in CF, X-man at SS, Carp/Nava at 1B & Lavarnway at C.
