Keep John Lackey
I know. Everyone is available for the right price. I also know that the Red Sox have an over-abundance of starting pitching. I also know that John Lackey will be paid the league minimum in 2015 due to his Tommy John surgery in 2012. Therefore, Lackey is a front line starter at a very reasonable price which makes him interesting to other teams. But, notwithstanding all of the above reasons, I think the Red Sox should keep John Lackey for his final 2 years. It's not for business reasons. Lackey should stay because he personifies the comeback, turnaround & redemption of this team in 2013. Who will ever forget his spectacular effort against Justin Verlander in game 3 of the ALCS? Who will forget his clutch performance in game 6 of the World Series? John Lackey was just a shade behind Jon Lester as the Sox best pitcher throughout the playoffs. He & Lester mowed down the top 2 starters for Tampa Bay, Detroit & St. Louis. Leaving to a standing ovation by the fans at Fenway in game 6 of the World series seemed impossible for John Lackey just a short time ago. Just like it seemed impossible that the Boston Red Sox would be World Series champs in 2013. Let's keep John Lackey in a Boston uniform to remind us that the impossible does happen.
