Is Saltie Gone?

Answer - maybe. It depends upon what Saltie & his agent are fielding for offers for his services in 2014. I think it also depends upon whether or not the Sox want to entrust 70-80 games in 2014 to Ryan Lavarnway &/or Cristian Vasquez. In particular for Lavarnway, it's time for the Sox to give him extended playing time at the big league level or let him go. Vasquez has a cannon for an arm, but he is not much with the bat. Another year of seasoning would definitely help him. But these 2 guys could man the catching position along with David Ross. To be honest, there are no great catchers for sale out there. Salties's numbers were good offensively, but he does strike out a lot with that big loop in his swing. He will run into 20 homers a year which makes him valuable. I think that Saltie's future is brighter to a team that needs a 1B or DH - like Victor Martinez. Saltie may not be a fit for the Sox's plans next year.
