Brian McCann - Too Pricey for Sox

At 29 Brian McCann is the best free agent catcher on the market. He is a good friend of David Ross. That's about the end of the connection to Boston. Over 8 big league seasons McCann averages 26 HR's & 97 RBI in a 162 game season, certainly a power force at the plate. I think that his asking price will be more than the 3 or 4 years that the Sox will be willing to offer. No question that McCann would be a nice addition, but the 5+ year deals are not something Ben & company are willing to offer since the jettison of lengthy contracts of Gonzalez, Crawford & Beckett. The Sox did tie-up Pedroia for multiple years, but that was an aberation from standard policy. McCann will probably end up in Texas, LA or maybe NY with the Mets, not Yankees.
