One More Win to Finish Dream Season

The formula was simple last night. Lester to Uehara to Boston. Jon Lester, now the undisputed ace of the Red Sox staff, pitched 7 2/3 innings of 1 run ball. Koji came in for a 4 out save. And the Red Sox head back to Boston with a 3-2 lead in games after a solid effort to beat the Cardinals & Adam Wainwright by a score of 3-1 on Monday. Wainwright drops 2 games to Lester during this series. Big Papi continued his torrid pace at bat with a double in the 1st to put the Sox up 1-0. Ortiz finished the game with 3 hits. Matt Holliday tied the game with a solo shot to CF. But late RBI hits by David Ross & Jacob Ellsbury put the Sox ahead to stay. Matheny will be scrutinized for not bringing in a lefty to pitch to Ellsbury with 2 outs. Looking ahead, the Sox face a tough customer in Michael Wacha in game 6, but John Lackey will be up to the task. Similar to the Detroit series, the Sox split at home & won 2 out of 3 in the visitor's ballpark. Let's hope the script repeats itself again as the Sox beat the Tigers in 6. You can pick your word - unlikely, improbable, unthinkable, against all odds - but the 2013 Boston Red Sox are 1 win away from a 3rd World Series in our lifetime after an 86 year drought. As one famous Red Sox announcer said in 2004, can you believe it?

I keep Salty on the bench & play Ross. Hitting aside, Ross handles the pitchers better. Then I bat Papi 1st, 2nd, 3rd, & 4th. Try to pitch around him now!
