Cards Strike Back With 4-2 Win
It was the young guns of the Cardinals pitching staff that held Boston to minimal offense, minus a 2-run homer by Big Papi. And it was Craig Breslow who was not up to par, allowing the go-ahead run to score on an ill-advised throw to 3B that sailed away into the night. And so to did game 2 sail away from the Red Sox. It's hard enough to comeback once & take a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the 6th. Very hard, almost impossible to do it twice. Each team has a win now in this best 3 out of 5 series. Jake Peavy is going to have a huge impact on the final results of 2013. He gets the ball in game 3 & will be scheduled again for a game 7, if necessary. Assuming Lester & Lackey split again when they pitch against Wainwright & Walka, this series will hinge on 2 games pitched by Jake Peavy & one by either Clay Buccholz or Felix Doubront. Peavy can't be any worse than he was in Detroit, so we need to trust that he can silence the Cards bats & keep the game close for 5 or 6 innings. Game 3 will be the biggest start of Peavy's career & we need him to be up to the challenge.
