Worst to First!!
It's official. The Boston Red Sox are the division winners of the AL East for 2013. A 6-3 win over the Toronto Blue Jays last night clinched the top spot for the first time since 2007. There were many appropriate endings for this incredible story. It shouldn't go unnoticed that the Sox clinched against the team that was picked to win the East. A little irony there. Jon Lester was on the mound, proving that he is your #1 starter in the playoffs. Mike Carp delivers a big 2-run single as he has done many times throughout the year. John Farrell puts Jonny Gomes in LF in the 7th to recognize his contributions throughout the year. Farrell inserts Shane Victorino into CF in the 9th for the same reason. Junichi Tazawa, a kid who was excellent most of the year, got to start the 8th as he has done throughout the year. And Koji comes on for a 5-out save, striking out the final batter. It was a perfect finish to cap a worst-to-first season. We had the idiots of 2004. We had the business-like approach in 2007. And this year we have the beards who are somewhere in-between. It's my opinion that this team has revived baseball in Boston after a horrendous 2012. They also gave Boston fans a much-needed distraction after the marathon bombings. Well done to all the players, coaches, manager & front office. If the Sox don't win another game, I think it's been a winning season, in fact a great season, that fans can be proud of. But now that we're in, we might as well win it all, right?
