Wasted Opportunities in 3-0 Loss to Tigers

You can learn more in a loss sometimes than you can in a win. First, if the Sox make the playoffs, I would start John Lackey. Lackey is very use to pitching in tight ballgames 0-0, 1-0, 2-0 & playoff games are usually low scoring. Once again John Lackey gets zero runs of support in a 3-0 loss today. Second, you can't leave RISP when you have the opposing starter on the ropes early in the game. The Red Sox couldn't deliver a key hit when needed today - early or late. Three, if you are going to bunt runners over from 1st & 2nd, get the ball to the 3rd baseman. Saltie had a nice idea, but didn't execute the bunt properly & got the lead runner forced out at 3rd. And lastly, it was nice to see the Red Sox not give up, even up to the last out. A blast by Saltie or Drew could have made it a 3-2 game. John Lackey's luck has to change. If Jacoby Ellsbury makes up 5 more inches on the triple by Dirks in the 7th, we might still be playing. A game of inches as the saying goes. Let's see if Jon Lester can be "ace" like & come up big for the Sox in game 2.
