Toronto - A Squandered Year
Nick Cafardo picks the Blue Jays to finish in 1st place just about every year. This year he had a lot of company with other media types also giving the Blue Jays the AL East crown in spring training. From spring training to now the Jays have gone from 1st to worst, finishing in the cellar of the East once again. Just look at their signings. Reyes & Dickey are overpriced & have been mediocre. Don't forget that Reyes took himself out of his last game with the Mets a few years ago so he could win the batting title. There's a team player for you! New, old manager John Gibbons shows no sign of being any better than the same guy that was fired by the Jays for fighting with players in the dugout. Injuries to Encarnacion & Bautista have taken away their power threat. But the Jays still have pitching issues & they have trouble fielding the ball. They can still win a few games, like last night, when it doesn't mean anything - other than getting your stats up for next year. Talk about bad player signings & a bad manager signing! The Toronto Blue Jays will finish this season as the only team in the East not above .500. It's next year - again -for the Jays & Nick Cafardo.
