Sox Win, Rays Lose

The Red Sox win in extras 9-8 over the Yankees while the Rays & David Price lose to the Angels 6-2. Baltimore wins & moves within 1/2 game of the Yankees for 3rd place. The Rays fall to 6 1/2 back of the Red Sox as they start their final west coast series this weekend in Seattle. Tampa holds onto a 2 1/2 game lead in the 2nd wild card over the Yankees. As Eck said last night, the Red Sox can play spoilers to the Rays, Yankees & O's since they have several games remaining against their AL East foes. The Sox will have a say in who gets the last wild card as the A's or Rangers look like a favorite for the 1st wild card. Nothing is for sure until the math tells you that it's over, but this Red Sox team seems too deep to go into any prolonged slump over the remaining 20 games. They haven't all year. I look for the Sox to finish strong.
