Sox Pound Tigers 20-4
You might say that the Red Sox beat the Tigers into submission with a 20-4 blowout win to take this hyped series 2 games to 1. David Ortiz collected a double & 2 homers on the evening with hits 1,999, 2,000 & 2,001 for his career. Ellsbury, Nava, Carp, Drew, Middlebrooks & Napoli also homered during the content. Will Middlebrooks' grand slam in the 6th opened the floodgates. Ryan Dempster threw 6 innings of 4-run ball to notch his 2nd win since returning from suspension. At the start of this series you would have bet the the Tigers, not the Red Sox, were the ones who had the capability of scoring 20 runs. This series shows what a different team the Tigers are without a healthy Miguel Cabrera. And it also shows the depth of the Red Sox lineup. On any given night, like the #9 batter Middlebrooks on Tuesday night, anyone in that lineup can produce a big hit & be the hero. Now onto Gotham for 4 more big games. It will be fun to see how Peavy reacts to the big stage.
