Bud Selig to Retire After 2014 Season

Mercy! It's finally happening. Bud Selig will retire after next season. The man who once called a tie in an all-star game when all pitchers were used up to change this exhibition to "now it counts." The guy who took forever to clean up baseball's black stain on the game via steroids with a "we can police ourselves" policy. Bud has been more ineffectual than effective in his last several years. At 79 he should have retired long ago. But at least it's happening sooner than later. Yes, he did bring wild cards into play & instant replay. But the last straw was his handling or not handling of the A-Roid situation this year by not invoking the power of his office to suspend Rodriguez & instead letting him play through the year. What a travesty it would have been to all the clean players in this sport if A-Roid had led the Yankees into a post-season berth. Goodbye, Bud. Thanks, but don't let the door hit you on the way out! Maybe now we can get a Roger Goddell type who can market this game to a younger demographic & include women like the NFL campaign is targeting this year. It's a chance for baseball to find its rightful place in sports again.
