Another Win Over Yankees 5-1
Jon Lester - huge day. 8 innings of 1-run ball. The Sox offense ground out at-bats to wear down CC & the Yankees as Victorino, Gomes & co. came up with timely hits when needed. But the story line of the day belongs to Jon Lester & he deserves it. Even after the game Lester had this tough guy feel to his words. "Either they were going to get me, or I was going to get them." Sounds like fighting words to me. I guess Lester won the battle. The Yankees have now lost 5 out of 6 to the Red Sox & losing this series has moved them behind Tampa by 3 games in the wild card hunt. Don't look now, but the Cleveland Indians have skipped ahead of New York & Baltimore. Francona's boys are only 1.5 games behind the Rays & the Indians have a pretty easy schedule down the stretch while the AL East dukes it out with each other. Back to Boston. This Red Sox team is special. Perhaps it was the impact of the Boston bombings. Perhaps it was the pre-season reporters who picked this team to finish last. Whatever "it" is, there are 25 motivated guys in the dugout every day. Red Sox Nation, you have a team to be proud of again.
