Another Comeback, Another Series Win
John Farrell said it right. The Houston Astros gave the Boston Red Sox a battle each & every night of their 3-game series. It took a 3-run homer in the 9th by Stephen Drew, yes Stephen Drew, to complete a comeback win 7-5 over the 'Stros. Many heroes last night. Jonny Gomes hits a 2-run homer in the 7th to make the score 5-4 after the Astros scored 3 in the bottom of the 6th. The Japanese duo of Tazawa & Uehara shutdown the Houston offense over the final 3 innings, Tazawa going the 7th & 8th. Even Drake Britton got pressed into service as a pinch runner in the 9th for David Ortiz after the big man singled for his 4th hit of the night. Shane Victorino got tossed for arguing a check swing call with the bases loaded. That made for some position re-assignments, including moving Gomes to RF where he made a great sliding catch on a foul ball. This team just doesn't lose close games. Even after I told my wife it doesn't look good, she said the Sox have comeback from bigger deficits. She was right. Another impressive win for a team picked to finish at the bottom of the AL East. Off to KC now to play 4 against a hot team that had won 9 in a row going into last night's game.
