Almost, Not Quite, Another Comeback Win
I said to my wife that Mike Napoli up with 2 outs in the 9th isn't good, but wouldn't a homer now be a great way for him to get out of his slump. And sure enough Napoli hits a tying homer in the 9th to bring the Sox back to 3-3. However, the Sox end up losing in extras 4-3 on a sharp hit ball that Drew couldn't field cleanly. Brandon Workman gets the loss, but he continues to pitch very well every time he gets the ball. Jon Lester had a serviceable outing. The Sox had runners all over the bases in extras, but they just couldn't get one more big hit. It happens. Rays finally win, but the O's lose so the lead is back to 3 games. Every team in the AL East is struggling recently with 5-5 being the high water mark for Boston & Baltimore. The other 3 teams are below .500 in their past 10 games. A win today for Jake Peavy would be a nice end to the road trip before coming home to face the new look Yankees with A-Rod & Soriano.
